What Epoxy Sealing Actually Does
Epoxy shower sealing is not a surface coating. It doesn’t get painted or sprayed over your tiles. It’s applied specifically to the grout lines and silicone joints — the areas where water penetrates.
A two-part commercial-grade epoxy compound is flooded into the grout lines, where it soaks into the substrate and cures to form a watertight, chemically bonded seal. The tile faces are cleaned throughout the process, not coated.
What the Process Looks Like on the Day
- Preparation — The shower is thoroughly cleaned, existing silicone is removed, and grout lines are cleaned back to a sound substrate.
- Application — The two-part epoxy is mixed and carefully applied to all grout lines and joints in the wet area using precision tools to avoid contact with the tile face.
- Clean-up — Any epoxy that reaches the tile surface is removed before curing. Tiles are left clean.
- Curing — The epoxy cures over 24–48 hours. The shower must remain dry and unused during this time.
- Completion — Once cured, the shower is sealed, watertight, and ready for use. Your written warranty certificate is issued at this point.
What Stays Exactly the Same
- The tile colour, texture, and glaze are completely unaffected
- The tile size, layout, and proportions are unchanged
- No tiles are removed or replaced
- The shower’s overall appearance remains the same
What Might Actually Look Better
Many customers comment that the shower looks noticeably cleaner after the job — not different, just clean. This is a byproduct of the preparation process. Old black or discoloured grout is cleaned back, deteriorated silicone is replaced with fresh silicone, and the grout lines end up clean and uniform in colour.
